If you're looking for quality arts workshops in Cardiff with a difference, why not try Arts Exchange? Acting, drumming and dancing make up our programme every Saturday, giving you a multitude of skills and the chance to make new friends. From Shakespeare to Carnival, Improvisation to Latin Folklore, our workshops are influenced by arts from around the world and delivered with commitment and passion. With something new every term and plenty of performance opportunities, you will never be bored! | DRAMA You will develop confidence and communication skills, whilst stretching your imagination and having fun! We use theatre games, improvisation and scripts to give students hands on experience of classical texts, modern dramas and devised plays of your own making. Recent performances include Romeo and Juliet, a Victorian Melodrama, mask characters and a Brazilian folk tale.
SINGING You will find yourself singing in languages you didn't know existed! From ancient Yoruba to Portuguese, Spanish and even English, we have a way of teaching these beautiful and haunting songs from around the world so you barely even know you are learning. Using latin percussion to accompany our songs, for example the cajon (flamenco box drum), bells, shakers, sound effects and congas, you'll develop an understanding of how rhythm and voice go hand in hand, singing while playing - there's no better route to fantastic co-ordination! | DANCE Our students gain experience of many different styles of dance. One term they may find themselves studying a traditional Brazilian Candomble dance and the next, a funky street and hip-hop style! We have also covered baroque, carnival samba reggae and contemporary jazz. DRUMMING Our main focus within the music side of Arts Exchange is Samba percussion. Using authentic Samba instruments we play an exciting repertoire of grooves from Brazil. You will learn all of the varying percussion skills this vibrant music has to offer from playing bass drums (surdo), to caixa (snare drum) and handheld instruments such as tambourims, bells and shakers. You will experience the thrill of processing in carnivals, performing at local events and venues and on occasion playing outdoors in the city centre!
